5-year-old boy mauled by street dogs in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: A five-year-old boy was attacked by a pack of stray dogs at Kurmannapalem locality in Vizag on Friday. The boy Moksharaju was playing in a park near his house when the street dogs, without any provocation, attacked and bit him badly. The boy suffered multiple injuries, and a part of his left ear was also ripped off.
The locals said Moksharaju alone came to the park on Friday afternoon and was reportedly playing in the park when more than ten stray dogs suddenly surrounded and attacked him. The dogs attacked the boy, causing severe injuries, before nearby people rushed to the spot. The dogs bit the boy on different parts of the body, including his ear, as part of the boy’s ear was reportedly bitten during the incident. The locals heard his cries and came to the rescue.
The injured boy was shifted to a private hospital at Gajuwaka in Vizag for treatment, where his condition is said to be stable. The TDP leaders decided to extend support to the injured boy’s family.
In most of the dog bite cases, children and elderly people were victims, and most of the cases have been reported between April and June. The veterinary doctor said that mostly during the summer months, the dogs will be in a more furious state, causing unnecessary bites to passersby, including children, and people should stay away from a group of street dogs.
There are over one lakh stray dogs in Vizag. However, the civic body officials have claimed that of the one lakh stray dogs, birth control surgeries were already performed on over 90 percent of the stray dogs. Deaths due to dog attacks have not been reported in Vizag in the past few years, they added.
