TIRUPATI: Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday announced an ex gratia payment of 50 lakh for the family of Lance Naik Boggala Sai Teja, who was among the 13 killed in the fatal military chopper crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on December 8.

Hailing from Eguva Regada village in Chittoor district's Kurabalakota mandal, Teja joined the army in 2012 as a sepoy, and while serving in Bangalore regiment, was selected for para commando training.


Last year he was appointed as personal security officer to the country's first Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, who too died in the MI-17V5 helicopter crash.

and local MLA P Dwarakanath Reddy met Sai Teja's family members on Saturday and handed over the cheque of 50 lakh. They also assured them that the state government will extend all support to the family. Sai Teja's mortal remains, which have reached Bangalore, will reach his native village Eguva Regada on Sunday morning. His last rites would be held later in the afternoon.
