lauded the services of Red Cross society in roping in many corporate firms to provide relief to the underprivileged.

She said that the Red Cross had inspired many people to swing into action to help the people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The DSP distributed tool kits to the artisans at a function held at the Red Cross district unit here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, DSP Supraja said that millions of people were suffering due to lack of employment across the nation.

She added that youth should be nurtured to take up self-employment with skill development programme and be provided with required tool kits.

“It is heartening to see that the Red Cross has decided to provide tool kits to the skilled labour which will help them earn their livelihood without much trouble,” said Supraja.

Red cross vice-chairman P Rama Chandra Raju said that they were taking up innovative schemes to help the needy in the society. He explained that red cross provided food and medicines to thousands of people during the pandemic only due to the active role played by the corporate firms and philanthropists.

He observed that economic empowerment of all sections of the society is very much required for the inclusive development of the nation. He said that a foundation managed by a leading jewellery company had donated tool kits and also television and washing machine sets for old-age homes and orphanages run by JMJ charities.

JMJ social service society representative sister Cletus appreciated the services of the jewellery foundation and red cross administration. She said that such contributions would go a long way in the empowerment of the poor. Red cross treasurer A Ravi Srinvias, foundation representative Sk Babu, SVS Lakshmi Narayana, Thomas Sebastian were also present at the event.
