Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (AP Transco) has launched a summer internship programme, inviting applications from students of IITs and other recognised institutions to work on live assignments connected to grid planning, system operations, and transmission infrastructure.
According to the notification issued by the utility, the programme is structured around defined problem statements rather than observational training. Interns will be attached to functional wings and required to deliver outputs that can be used within AP Transco's operational framework, including analytical models, software tools, dashboards, and technical documentation.
AP Transco has identified 44 problem statements across 10 functional wings. These include grid modelling and expansion planning, renewable energy forecasting, substation automation, asset management, cybersecurity, power market operations, and finance and regulatory analytics. The internship duration will range from eight to 12 weeks, with provision for extension based on performance and project needs.
While the planning wing will focus on grid modelling and transmission planning, the state load dispatch centre (SLDC) will engage interns on renewable energy forecasting, demand prediction, and digital twin development. APPCC-SLDC-Exchange operations will cover power purchase decision systems, scheduling and settlement analytics. The protection and telecom wings will address relay coordination, IEC 61850 systems, and operational technology cybersecurity.
Each intern will work under a designated officer from the wing concerned, with milestone-based reviews. Deliverables will include an inception note, intermediate submissions and a final presentation to AP Transco management. Interns will work with operational data under non-disclosure agreements and may undertake field visits where required.
The programme is open to undergraduate students who have completed at least three years of study, postgraduate students who have completed one year, and final-year students or recent graduates within six months of course completion. A minimum academic score of 70% or equivalent CGPA is required. The internship carries a monthly honorarium of ₹25,000 for students from IITs, ₹20,000 for candidates from top 100 NIRF-ranked institutions, ₹15,000 for students from universities and autonomous institutions, and ₹10,000 for students from AICTE-approved affiliated colleges.
