VIJAYAWADA: State irrigation minister Ambati Rambabu on Thursday released water into Krishna eastern and western deltas. Minister switched on the crest gates at Krishna eastern main canal and released around 1,000 cusecs of water into irrigation canals ahead of kharif season.
Rambabu, along with housing minister Jogi Ramesh, performed special prayers before releasing the water into deltas. He offered saree, fruits, flowers, turmeric and herbs to the river and wished farmers got good yield in kharif season.
Rambabu said the state government set a record by releasing water very early in the last two years.
He added the state government’s planning and water management are helping the farmers to harvest the crop early and prevent crop damage in September and October months due to cyclones and sudden rains.
“Krishna delta was neglected by the previous government. We focused on strengthening the delta. Canals were cleaned and minor irrigation channels were strengthened to ensure that farmers at the tail end regions get sufficient water. Around 34 TMC of water is available at Pulichintala project and farmers can start sowing works,” Ambati said.
He assured that the government will increase the water flow based on the demand in future.
