VIJAYAWADA: The state government will soon constitute a separate corporation to take care of the welfare of Sikhs and other minorities, CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said after a meeting with Sikh community leaders in his Tadepalli camp office.

AP minorities commission member Jitendarjit Singh propsed that steps should be taken by the government to constitute a corporation for Sikhs and affiliated communities for effective implementation of Navaratnalu. On a request made by the representatives to exempt gurdwaras from property tax, Jagan instructed officials to remove property tax on gurdwaras. He also issued instructions to officials to provide benefits to granthis on par with priests, pastors and maulvis. The chief minister also agreed to declare Guru Nanak Jayanti as a holiday and announced that he will provide all necessary support to establish a minority educational institution. A resolution in this regard will be made in the next cabinet meeting, he said. tnn
