VISAKHAPATNAM: Another student from Andhra Pradesh was found dead in the United States.
25-year-old Rupak Reddy Padini from Ichchapuram of Srikakulam district drowned in Lake George in the US while he was vacationing with his friends and was reportedly taking photographs.
Rupak was studying MS at Harrisburg University of Science Technology, Pennsylvania. He went to the US around eights months ago.
The tragic incident took place at Lamb Shanty Bay in Hague when Rupak and his friends visited Lake George for boating, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Rupak was with a group of friends in Lamb Shanty Bay in Hague at around 3.20 pm on Tuesday (Aug 27). The witness from the scene said it has happend off the coast of the Silver Bay YMCA in Hauge. The group had a pontoon boat secured to the shore and were out either on the shore, wadding or swimming, according to police, when they became distressed. Rupak was wearing a life jacket, slipped out of it and went underwater.
The Marine patrol officers have rescued all but one member of the group. The witnesses said that they also saw the officers respond to the scene from the sky, with a helicopter that seemed as if it was searching for Rupak. The rescue teams located Rupak, attempted life-saving efforts on scene but was eventually pronounced dead. Rupak’s father P Kaviraju Reddy is a government teacher and his mother Dhanavathi is a housewife.
Six persons from Andhra Pradesh died of drowning in the US in the past few years. A student G Sai Surya Avinash from East Godavari accidentally slipped into a Barberville waterfall in Albany, New York and died in the US in July 7 this year
Student of Louisiana State University, Joseph Smile (23) from Vizag city died in a boat mishap in Baton Rouge of USA in September 2010. Similarly, Daniel Navin (26), a software professional from Vizag city with a Chennai- based company deputed to the USA, had drowned while boating in May 2010. A software engineer Avinash Kuna from Vizag city died in a boat mishap in New Jersey of USA when he reportedly drowned after diving off from a rental pontoon boat in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey in June 2019.
