Bus carrying Vizag corporators meets with accident near Jammu

Visakhapatnam: A bus carrying some corporators from the city met with a minor accident near Jammu on Friday. No passenger was reported injured in the mishap.According to sources, a team of GVMC including some corporators and officials were tavelling in four different buses. On of the buses gave a minor dash to another bus before hitting the footpath. Break failure was said to be the reason behind the mishap. The officials are on a study tour and were covering Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab in the last few days. They will visit various municipal corporations to study their best practices pertaining to sanitation, cleanliness, urban development, greenery, etc. Speaking to TOI, 39th ward corporator Mohammed Sadiq said that no one was injured in the accident. “The study tour will continue till September 17, Sunday,” he said .“A new bus was arranged for the travel following the accident,” he added. Some corporators expressed their disappointment at the allegedly poor tour arrangements. It was also learnt that two corporators engaged in physical alteration due to an issue pertaining to room keys. In 2022, the corporators had a narrow escape on their way as boulders fell just a few metres away from their buses during their study tour to Himachal Pradesh. They were stranded on the on the Manali highway for several hours following a heavy traffic jam due to the landslide.

GVMC corporators in Srinagar on study tour

A delegation of GVMC corporators, led by the mayor, visited Srinagar municipal corporation. The Srinagar mayor welcomed the delegation and gave a presentation on the activities carried out by the corporation. The GVMC mayor discussed the eco-Vizag initiative and various other topics such as underground drainage system and park development. The visit aimed to exchange ideas and establish cooperation in urban governance between Visakhapatnam and Srinagar. The GVMC team will also visit other municipalities in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

6 kids injured in bus accident in Kaushambi

Six school children sustained minor injuries when the driver of a private school bus in Kaushambi district drove the vehicle into a small pit to stop it after the brakes failed. The bus was carrying 60 kids and the driver's trick successfully stopped the bus after jerking. The injured children received first-aid at a local hospital.
