"All movement of cargo ships in and out of the port, including the Inner Harbour, is normal. But the port is put on alert in case the cyclone worsens," a senior Visakhapatnam Port Trust official said on Monday. Senior VPT officials are on rounds in the port. The port has 18 berths in the Inner Harbour and 6 berths in the Outer Harbour, apart from a fishing harbour. Fishermen have been cautioned against heading out to sea.

According to a spokesman of the shore-based Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd, the corporate entity of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, all operations of the steel plant were working normally. "We have not seen any impact so far of the effects of Cyclone Phethai. The residential townships of the steel plant have also not been affected," the spokesman said.
