Visakhapatnam: The swift response of the state govt and local authorities averted a potential disaster and saved five villages from the devastating effects of the Yeleru canal floods.Upon receiving early flood warnings, deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan instructed officials to strengthen the vulnerable sections of the Yeleru canal embankment. A potential breach was identified near VK Rayapuram in Samarlakota mandal, prompting immediate action.Under the leadership of Krishna Teja, panchayat raj and rural development director, the Kakinada district administration, mandal officials, and local panchayat staff worked tirelessly to fortify the embankment. Kakinada district collector Shan Mohan closely monitored the situation to ensure the effectiveness of the measures. The local community also played a vital role in supporting these efforts.According to officials, had the breach not been prevented, five villages - Madhavapatnam, Rameswaram, Kovvada, Repuru, and VK Rayapuram - would have been severely affected by the floods.Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan expressed his satisfaction with the successful outcome, commending the district administration, Samarlakota MPDO, Tahsildar, NREGS team, and local leaders for their dedicated efforts in safeguarding the villages.
