In a recent crackdown, police impound many high-value bikes

Visakhapatnam: City’s young motorcycle enthusiasts are heavily buying into the high-end bike market.

According to an employee of a Royal Enfield store in the city, “In the past few years top-end bikes have turned into a major attraction among city’s youth. People are not just enquiring but actively buying them. The bikes have gained immense popularity among the city’s youths because of their high speeds.”

Classis 350, Bullet 350, Himalayan and Interceptor 650 are some of the top-end bikes of Royal Enfield which are very popular among city’s youngsters. The on road price for these bikes range between Rs 1.39 lakh to Rs 2.51 lakh.

“In the last three financial years our sale has increased by 25-30%. Considering the size of the city and competition among top-end bike manufacturers we must say it’s a huge boost,” an official said.

The Royal Enfield bikes have always had an enduring relationship with India. Post-independence Royal Enfield became the official motorcycle of the Indian Army and even different police forces across the country use them for their performance and speed.

However, Indian made Bajaj KTM series bikes are also immensely popular.

“KTM 125, KTM 390 and RC 200 are fast becoming popular. Youths are not only attracted to them for their looks and performance but also speed. The maximum speed on a KTM Duke 125 is 120 kilometre/hour,” said Srinivas Adari, CEO of a prominent automobile showroom in the city. The city police have impounded several bikes in a recent crackdown. A large number of these bikes are high-end.

“Most of the bikes we have seized from these illegal racings are top-end ones. It seems that top-end bike owners are increasing by the day. The young generation is getting attracted towards these bikes because of their sheer pace,” said a
