School registers show inflated data on kids

Visakhapatnam: Vigilance officials of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram raided two schools in

Bhogapuram

mandal on Thursday and detected various discrepancies in the implementation of the

mid-day meal

scheme.

Two schools, which were raided, were Mandal Praja Parishad School and the Zilla Parishad High School. In both the schools, the number of children on the register exceeded the actual number of students present.

In the ZP high school, while the number of students shown was 442, the actual number was 379, whereas in the mandal school, the actual number was 60, while the number on the register was 66.

A thorough inspection of the stock register also showed that the dal and eggs were in excess of the requirement. Moreover, officials noted that the mandal school did not have LPG facility and the children were being fed in the open courtyard.

The regional enforcement officer, along with two CIs and other officials, participated in the raids.
