Tribal farmers stage protest demanding release of water

Visakhapatnam: Tribal farmers belonging to Buddibandha hamlet in Anakapalli district staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding the government to release water to their crops from Pedderu reservoir.
They said water is supplied to about 3,000 farmers in 16 villages of Ravikamatham mandal from the reservoir during crop seasons.
“These 3,000 farmers plant their crops in about 4,110 acres. Nearly 1,500 farmers in Butchayyapeta mandal are also waiting for irrigation water. They have completed the sowing by utilising water resources from borewells and tanks. But due to scanty rains, water resources for these crops have declined, forcing the farmers to carry water to the fields in buckets and other vessels,” they said.
