Two held for smuggling turtles in ASR district

Visakhapatnam: Forest officials arrested two individuals for smuggling 278 turtles in the Sukumamidi area in the Lakkavaram forest range in Chintoor mandal. The turtles were being smuggled from Amalapuram in Konaseema district to Odisha via Motugudem forest at Chintoor in ASR district.The arrested were identified as Karthik Mandal of Polluru village and B Sai Krishna of Jagannadhapuram village of East Godavari district. Forest ranger GV Nanaji informed media that they caught two persons travelling in a car with sea turtles at Sukumamidi North Beat on a tip-off.Of the 278 turtles, 245 were alive and 33 were dead. All the live turtles were released into the Seeleru river. A case was registered against them under the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.

Ganja seizure in ASR district

Police in Alluri Sitharama Raju district have confiscated 265 kilograms of ganja worth approximately 13.25 lakh in three separate incidents. The suspects were transporting the ganja from Odisha to Telangana. Arrests include Nimmala Manikanta with 20 kilograms, Dheeravath Ganesh with 215 kilograms, and seven persons at Chinturu bus station with 30 kilograms.

Two arrested for smuggling 338 kg of tobacco products near Coimbatore

Annur police in Coimbatore arrested a pickup van driver and a loadman smuggling 338 kg of banned tobacco products. They were intercepted during a routine vehicle check after trying to flee. The contraband, hidden among rice bran bags, was valued at Rs 2.50 lakh. The suspects are now in judicial custody.
