Visakhapatnam Port Trust eyes record cargo handling

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizag Port Trust chairman K Rama Mohan Rao said the port is trying to facilitate berthing of cape size vessels at the general cargo berth (VGCB) during night hours and also the handling of vessels with draft of 36 meters and 38 meters in the inner harbour in the same hours to achieve a record in cargo handling.

He said the port is working hard to bring navigational improvements by imparting training and upgrading the pilots, tugs, and mooring crew skills. After hoisting the tricolor, the chairman said the port handled a volume of 26 million tonnes from April to August 2022 as against 23.5 million tonnes in the same period last year, registering a growth of 11%.

He hoped that the port would grow and surpass 72 million tonnes in this financial year to create a new record.
