Vizag and Tuni experience heat waves, IMD forecast heatwave condition till April 20
VISHAKHAPATNAM: Vizag city and Tuni town on Tuesday experienced heat wave conditions with the temperature increased by over 5 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded in Vizag city was 37.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which is around 5.6 degrees Celsius above the normal.
The Vizag Airport registered 40.8 degrees Celsius, but the departure was only 2.5 degrees.
Similarly, Tuni in Kakinada district registered a maximum temperature 41.5 degrees and the departure was 5.8 degrees Celsius.
The increased mercury levels and heat wave conditions hit hard to normal life in Vizag city and Tuni. In 2023 Tuni recorded the highest temperature of 46.4 degrees Celsius and Vizag city 44.4 degrees Celsius with a departure of 11 degrees Celsius.
The IMD-Amarvati mentioned that on Tuesday, Nadyal recorded the highest temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius but the departure was 2.9 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Kurnool recorded 43 degrees Celsius and departure was 2.9 degrees Celsius. Senior scientist at IMD- Amavaravathi Dr S Karunasagar said the heatwave conditions would prevail over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and south coastal Andhra Pradesh for three more days. He said thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely at isolated places over a few parts over the coastal Andhra Pradesh on April 21.
