VISAKHAPATNAM: The CBI officials on Saturday carried searches at the office and residential premises of R Padam Singh, Plant Protection Officer, Visakhapatnam, Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage Department, Ministry of Agriculture, at Vizag, Kakinada, Roorkee (Uttarakhand) and seized Rs 1.86 crore cash and certain incriminating documents.

It may be recalled that the Anti-Corruption Wing of CBI, Vizag arrested a plant protection officer and a representative of Exim Logistics Private Limited on Friday. R Padam Singh, plant protection officer at Plant Quarantine Station in Vizag, accepted a bribe of Rs 6,000 from Athi Bulli Reddiyya, regional manager of Exim Logistics Private Limited for clearing pending applications.
The CBI officials mentioned that they have received a reliable information that R Padam Singh, has been demanding and collecting huge amounts of bribes from the CHAs, Fumigators and Shipping Agents for issuing Phytosanitary Certificates for exporting the goods and Consignment Release Orders for imported consignments.
Based on the concrete information, CBI has conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused persons in three places. The searches have led to seizure of Rs 1,86,55,450 cash and certain incriminating documents on Saturday.
The accused persons R. Padam Singh, Athi Bulli Reddiyya alias Murali, Regional Manager of Exim Logistics Pvt Ltd., Visakhapatnam, S Siva Rama Gupta, Visakhapatnam and Myla Srikrishna Varma, Proprietor of Quality Fumigation & Pest Control Services, Kakinada have been arrested and produced before the Court of Special Judge for CBI Cases, Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
