NEW DELHI: In a boost for India’s long-range precision strike capabilities, private sector defence firm Nibe Limited has successfully carried out firing demonstrations of its Suryastra rocket launcher system at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha, as part of an Indian Army procurement programme.According to the company, the trials involved Suryastra rockets with ranges of 150 km and 300 km, both of which successfully met accuracy benchmarks during the demonstration.

The 150-km variant achieved a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 1.5 metres, while the 300-km version recorded a CEP of 2 metres, indicating high precision strike capability. CEP is a standard measure of a weapon’s accuracy, referring to the radius within which half of the fired rounds are expected to land. The firing demonstration was conducted as part of a procurement order placed by the Indian Army with the company, marking a significant milestone for indigenous private-sector participation in advanced rocket artillery systems. The Suryastra rocket launcher system is positioned as a long-range precision strike platform capable of significantly extending the Army’s stand-off attack capability. If inducted at scale, such systems could strengthen India’s ability to strike high-value targets deep inside hostile territory while keeping launch platforms away from immediate threat zones.
The successful demonstration also comes amid India’s broader push for indigenous defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, with increasing participation from private players in artillery, missile systems and advanced battlefield technologies.
