Keeping in mind the limited options available for the students looking to get a degree in political leadership, MIT-SOG-School of Governance, an institute in Pune has been running a course focusing on the core aspects of political leadership. This is claimed to be the few institutes that offer a postgraduate degree in Political Leadership and Governance. While

Political science

is one of the most popular courses offered in university across the globe, Political Leadership is emerging as an important course taken up by students aspiring to public figures and leaders.

The programme combines a mix of experiential, facilitative, and case study methods of learning and to make the students get an in-depth understanding of how the government functions in a socio-political environment.
"We have never really focussed on training those aspiring to be politicians. This two-year programme helps budding politicians get practical leadership training to prepare for future leadership," says Rahul

Karad

, founder, and dean, MIT-SOG.

"The course offers one-year on-campus learning and one-year off-campus training to the students. It is committed to evolving a healthy democratic system, which can churn out leaders of great calibre from the society," he adds.

Off the campus, the curriculum has been devised to help the students get an insight into politics with the help of participative learning through interactions with eminent politicians and social activists, study tours (national and

international

), and field assignments.

Since politics concerns the wellbeing of a nation and safeguard

democracy

, a course dedicated to imparting knowledge about political leadership was required as a suitable option.

"The art of politics can be learned best when someone is out in the field, interacting with the people. The curriculum has been devised keeping that in mind," says Karad.

The institute also organises Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (BCS), a political platform involving students from various colleges/universities across the country, seeking to broaden their outlook and facilitate the exchange of ideas and opinions amongst them.

"The Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (BCS) is critical for developing a sense of character and the right ideas among the youth and giving them an opportunity to interact with some of the best minds in the country. It gives the youth of the country a platform where they share their views and concerns on the issues pertaining to them," says Karad.
