IIT Hyderabad scholarships: Check eligibility criteria and other details here
In the recent NIRF Rankings 2024, the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad secured the 8th position in the engineering category. Additionally, the institute ranked 3rd in the innovation category and 15th in the research and innovation category, establishing its prominence. Naturally, students aspiring to pursue engineering aim to gain admission to IIT Hyderabad. However, gaining admission to such a prestigious institute is neither easy nor inexpensive. To support students, IIT Hyderabad offers a variety of scholarships. Today, we will explore the scholarship schemes available at IIT Hyderabad.
Merit-cum-Means (MCM)
The Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarship is available to students from the GEN, GEN-EWS, and OBC categories, provided their parental gross income does not exceed Rs. 4.5 Lakhs. Applicants must submit an Income Tax Return (ITR) along with an acknowledgment from the Income Tax Department as proof of their parents' income, including both father and mother or guardian, if applicable. The number of students eligible for the MCM scholarship is limited to 25% of the class strength. To qualify, students must secure a Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 7.0 or above and have no active backlogs in any courses, including additional ones. Shortlisted students will receive pocket money of Rs. 1,000 per month.
Additionally, students can only avail themselves of one scholarship, stipend, or financial aid from a single stakeholder during a given academic year, meaning they cannot receive multiple forms of financial assistance from different sources (government, private, or external agencies) for the same period.
SC/ST Scholarship
The SC/ST scholarship is available for students from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), with parental gross income not exceeding Rs. 4.5 Lakhs. Applicants must submit an Income Tax Return (ITR) and acknowledgment from the Income Tax Department as proof of income. There is no limit on the number of scholarships awarded if the criteria are met. Students must have a Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 7.0 or above and no active backlogs. Shortlisted students receive pocket money of Rs. 250 per month and refunds for license fees and dining charges based on eligibility.
Students may only receive one scholarship or financial aid from a single stakeholder in an academic year, prohibiting multiple forms of assistance from different sources.
National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) serves as a common electronic platform for implementing various scholarship schemes launched by the Union Government, State Governments, and Union Territories across India. For more details on the available schemes and guidelines, you can visit the NSP website. Additionally, the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), an organization under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, aims to provide financial assistance through its Education Loan Scheme to meritorious Scheduled Tribe (ST) students who face challenges in securing admission due to their inability to pay admission or tuition fees at the time of enrollment.
