NHPC Recruitment 2026: Applications open for Trainee Engineer posts; check eligibility, GATE requirement and dates

NHPC Limited has invited online applications for the recruitment of Trainee Engineers (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical) under Advertisement No. NH/Rectt/02/2026. The Navratna PSU is offering a lucrative opportunity for engineering graduates with valid GATE scores to join one of India’s leading hydropower companies.

NHPC vacancy details

NHPC has announced a total of 72 vacancies across three engineering disciplines:

• Civil: 7 posts
• Electrical: 26 posts
• Mechanical: 21 posts

In addition, 9 vacancies have been earmarked under a special recruitment drive for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

Eligibility criteria

Candidates applying for the Trainee Engineer posts must hold a full-time B.E./B.Tech or B.Sc (Engineering) degree in the relevant discipline from an AICTE-approved institution with at least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates).

The upper age limit is 30 years as on the last date of application, with applicable relaxations for reserved categories as per government norms.

GATE score mandatory

A key requirement for this recruitment is a valid GATE 2024 or GATE 2025 score in the corresponding discipline. Candidates who have appeared in both exams can submit their best score, which will be used for shortlisting. Final-year students are not eligible to apply.

Selection process

The selection process will be based on:

• GATE score (75% weightage)
• Group Discussion (5%)
• Personal Interview (20%)

Candidates will be shortlisted for GD and interview based on their normalized GATE marks. NHPC may also conduct a psychometric assessment, the results of which will be considered during the interview stage.

To qualify, candidates must secure minimum combined marks in GD and interview—40% for OBC (NCL) and 30% for SC/ST/PwBD categories.

Candidates must apply online by visiting the NHPC website and completing the registration process using their GATE registration number. They are required to upload scanned copies of educational certificates, GATE scorecard, category certificate (if applicable), photograph, and signature.
