NSS unit of DJ Sanghvi College to organise blood donation camp Mumbai on February 26
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of D.J. Sanghvi College of Engineering will organise its annual blood donation drive on February 26, 2026, at the college campus in Vile Parle (West), Mumbai. The institution is located opposite Cooper Hospital, a factor organisers say underlines the relevance of the initiative for nearby medical facilities.
According to the organisers, the drive aims to encourage students, faculty members, non-teaching staff and residents from the surrounding areas to donate blood voluntarily. The initiative is part of the college’s ongoing community outreach activities conducted through its NSS unit.
This year’s drive has been planned around the theme of the Indian Defence Forces, reflecting values such as service and duty. The theme is intended to acknowledge the contribution of armed forces personnel and to encourage citizens to participate in activities that support public welfare.
The blood donation camp will be conducted in association with authorised medical professionals and a recognised blood bank. Organisers have stated that standard medical protocols will be followed during the camp. All prospective donors will undergo preliminary health checks, including blood pressure measurement and haemoglobin testing, before being permitted to donate blood. The process will be supervised to ensure compliance with safety and hygiene requirements.
A representative of the NSS unit said that blood donation remains an important public health requirement, as a single unit of blood can be used to assist multiple patients depending on medical needs. The representative added that such initiatives also help students understand civic responsibility and community participation.
Blood donation drives are periodically organised by educational institutions across Mumbai to address recurring shortages in blood banks, particularly in urban hospitals that cater to large populations. By situating the camp close to Cooper Hospital, the organisers expect to facilitate timely access to collected blood units for patients in need.
D.J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, an autonomous engineering college in Mumbai, conducts various social initiatives through its NSS unit during the academic year. The upcoming drive forms part of these activities, with participation open to eligible donors who meet prescribed medical criteria.
