Odisha announces international literary award in memory of Manoj Das

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced an

international literary award

in memory of eminent bilingual litterateur Manoj Das. The state government will also set up a library and museum at the ancestral house of Das at Sankhari village in Balasore district, the CM announced.

The award will be given to prominent writers from Odisha for their notable contribution to English literature every year. The award will comprise of cash award worth Rs 10 lakh.

Besides, to create interest among school children for creative writing in English and Odia language the chief minister announced ‘Manoj Kishore Sahitya Pratibha Samman’, an annual literary award for high school students. The award will be given for writings in both Odia and English language and will carry a cash award of Rs one lakh each

The legendary writer Manoj Das, a recipient of Padma Shree and Padma Bhshan, who has written hundreds of stories, novels, fictions, poems and columns both in English and Odia language died on Tuesday at Puducherry.

Keeping the request of the family members of Das, chief minster Naveen Patnaik announced to concert the ancestral house as Manmath-Manoj Memorial where the pioneering works of writer Das and his elder brother and eminent historian Manmath Das will be displayed in a library and museum.
