UGC invites applications for ODL, online programmes 2026-27 from April 27; check key details
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited applications from eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) for recognition to offer programmes under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode and online mode for the academic year 2026-27.
The academic session for these programmes is scheduled to begin in August 2026.
According to the official public notice, the online application window will open on April 27, 2026, and will remain open until May 11, 2026.
Eligible institutions must submit their applications through the official Distance Education Bureau (DEB) portal at deb.ugc.ac.in.
The UGC said that fresh online applications are being invited under Regulation 3(A) and Regulation 3(B)(b) of the UGC Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes Regulations, 2020, along with later amendments.
Hard copy submission also required
Apart from the online application, institutions must also send a hard copy of the application form along with the original affidavit and required annexures.
The last date to submit these documents is May 20, 2026.
The hard copy must be sent to the office of the Joint Secretary, Distance Education Bureau, UGC, 35, Feroze Shah Road, New Delhi, 110001.
UGC has also said that some institutions that are already eligible to offer online or distance education courses can apply at any time during the year through the same DEB portal.
However, the commission made it clear that submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
All applications will be checked carefully before approval. Institutions must have qualified teachers, proper infrastructure, study material, and the required technology support.
Only those institutions that meet all rules and standards will be allowed to offer these courses, as UGC aims to maintain the quality of higher education.
Important advice for institutions
UGC has advised all institutions to regularly visit the DEB portal for the latest updates, detailed guidelines, and information related to the prescribed application fee.
