In 2018, this constituency was won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, when Dr Shivaraj Patil won the seat by defeating Syed Yaseen of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 10,991 votes. While Patil bagged 46 per cent votes, Yaseen got 37 per cent.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Raja Amareshwara Naik won from Raichur Lok Sabha (MP) seat by a margin of 1,17,716 votes by defeating BV Naik of the Indian National Congress.

Candidates in fray for the 2023 election are Vinay Kumar E of the JD(S), D Veeresh Kumar Yadav of the Aam Aadmi Party, Mohammed Shalam of the Indian National Congress, Dr Shivaraj Patil of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In 2013, Dr Shivaraj Patil fought for the JD(S) and won against the Congress's Yaseen, by 7,871 votes. In 2008 Yaseen fielded by the Congress won against M Earanna of the JD(S) by 8,361 votes.

Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Ahuja Papareddy won against Syed Yaseen of the Indian National Congress by 9,596 votes in 2004. In 1999 Yaseen defeated Ahuja Papa Reddy of the BJP by 5,556 votes.

In 1994 and 1989, the seat went to the JD, the Congress won it in 1985, and the JNP in 1983. While the INC won in 1978 and 1972, the SSP won in 1967. The Congress had also won in 1962 and 1957 from the seat.

The assembly election 2023 in the state to elect all 224 members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly are scheduled to be held on May 10. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on May 13.
