Rahul Gandhi announces fifth promise; free travel for women in public transport in Karnataka
MANGALURU: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced the fifth promise of the party, exclusively for women, in Karnataka. All women in Karnataka will travel in public transport for free if Congress is voted to power.
“Not just four promises, we will fulfil five promises on the first day of the government. The fifth promise will be for women. The BJP has stolen 40% commission from women of Karnataka and our job is to return it to them. Hence, after winning the election, women in Karnataka need not pay even a single rupee to travel in government buses,” Gandhi announced at a Congress campaign meeting held at Sahyadri College Campus in Adyar here on Thursday.
“I interacted with people of Karnataka, especially women, farmers and working class, to know what should be done for them. Congress has already announced four guarantees – Griha Lakshmi, Griha Jyoti, Anna Bhagya and Yuva Nidhi Scheme, for the people of Karnataka. There is no dearth of funds in Karnataka, but only an honest government can implement the scheme. This guarantee will be fulfilled on the first cabinet meeting to be held on the first day of the next government. The Prime Minister has made it a habit not to fulfil the promises he makes. We have fulfilled the promises made in Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Punjab,” Gandhi said.
He challenged the Prime Minister to extend the guarantees of the Congress to the entire nation after the next Congress government implements it in Karnataka. “Congress will form the government in Karnataka with 150 seats. No one can prevent this. The BJP is a 40% party and 40 seats will be suitable for them,” he asserted.
