Actor Darshan begins Sandalwood campaign for Sumalatha

Sumalatha’s Sandalwood brigade

started its legwork for the

independent candidate from Mandya

on Monday, with actor Darshan campaigning on her behalf in 20 villages in

Srirangapatna taluk

.


Voters gave the actor a hearty welcome from the time he started canvassing for Sumalatha, the

wife of late actor MH Ambareesh

, in Krishnarajasagara till he ended his efforts in Arakere village.

There was some apprehension that Darshan could face the ire of JD(S) workers, some of whom had warned him against campaigning for Sumalatha in Mandya, but there was no untoward incident on the day.

Recalling that “Ambareesh had sacrificed his post as minister for the cause of Mandya” in the Cauvery water dispute, the actor asked people to vote for Sumalatha and “uphold the pride” of the district.

Another star, Yash is likely to join Sumalatha’s campaign on Tuesday. Sumalatha, who made a visit to Dharmasthala, did not take part in the campaign on Monday.
