TTV, Kamal and Seeman can’t sustain for long: Tamilisai Soundararajan
CHENNAI: Amid expectations that TTV Dhinakaran, Kamal Haasan and Seeman could play spoilsport with the chances of major players in the elections, BJP state president
“These three are not going to create any impact in Tamil Nadu politics. These newcomers claim they are alternatives for the major players. But Tamil Nadu is a difficult platform. They should work hard and instil confidence in the minds of people. They would secure only negligible votes,” the BJP leader said. Singling out actor Kamal, she said the MNM symbol - torch light – would lose brightness when the battery drains.
The parties see the statement as a reflection of BJP’s frustration. Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi contested in all 234 seats in 2016 polls and secured 1.1% votes. Dhinakaran’s party and Kamal are making electoral debut now. NTK leader S Kalyanasundaram said his party would create history. “People did not have choice until the demise of Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa. With PWF constituents also joining the DMK, people see us as an alternative,” he said. “BJP and AIADMK can’t win a single seat in TN,” said AMMK leader P Vetrivel.
MNM vice-president N Mahendran sought to poohpooh Soundararajan’s comment. “At least we create a buzz. What impact has the BJP made in the minds of Tamils? Our torch light gets its power from the people,” he said.
“The symbols of the three parties, though new, have reached the rural households. These parties are capitalising on the anti-incumbency wave,” senior journalist Tharasu Shyam said. Issues, individuals and prevailing socio-political condition are the deciding factors for their sustainability, he said.
