SP announces its candidates for Allahabad and Phulpur

ALLAHABAD: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced the name of Pandhari Yadav as the party’s candidate from Phulpur parliamentary constituency. Yadav is a former district president of the SP.

Patel as the party’s candidate from Allahabad. Patel had been a block Pramukh (head) of Bahadurpur block.

After the announcement of BJP’s candidate from the seat, Kesari Devi, number of names were in the air as the probable candidate of SP from this seat which has been associated with first Prime Minister of the country, Jawahar Lal Nehru who registered three straight wins (1952, 57 and 62). SP too has an impressive record from the seat from 1996 elections onwards when the party won Five times, including the sitting MP, Nagendra Singh Patel who won the seat in the last year’s by-poll.

After considering several names, the party has decided to go with the old loyalist of the party, Pandhari Yadav.

Resident of Bagambari locality of Allahapur, 61 year old Yadav had been an active member of the student politics and was publishing secretary of student union of CMP in early 85-86. He was district president of the Lohia Vahini in 1996 and district president of the party in 2010.


“The party would be banking on spotless image of this loyalist who has always refrain himself from any controversy and is close to the pulse of the voters for being a native of Pratapur”, said, state spokesperson of the party, K K Srivastava, who has also been an office bearer under Yadav.

From Allahabad, the party has decided to go with Rajendra Singh Patel, who has a stronghold in trans-Yamuna area of the district.
