RD Burman, best known as
Pancham Da
in the
film industry, passed away on January 4, 1994 everyone was in shock. The legendary singer-music director breathed her last when he was just 54. However, even after all these years, his soothing melodies, touching tunes still inspire and influence musicians today.
We all know, how close Pancham Da was with another legendary singer
Kishore Kumar but how many of you know Kishore Kumar’s wife former lead actress-singer and also a noted lyricist
Leena Chandavarkar Ganguly also shared a great bonding with the music maestro.
“As is well-known, RDB and KK ( Kishore) shared a very close bonding. Very few know that both Pancham-da and I shared this common fascination for hot, spicy pungent food. So many times, Rahul-Da would come over to our Juhu bungalow Gauri Kunj and bring with him home-cooked ‘fish-kheema’ specially prepared by him, garnished with spicy chillies. While relishing this pungent food, I would be shedding reaction ‘tears’,” reveals Leena Ganguly in a tribute to Pancham-Da in the memoirs book ‘R D BurMania’ authored by award-winning senior film journalist Chaitanya Padukone who shared a personal rapport with RDB for many years.
