Celebrated Malayalam actor Mohanlal whose recent release ‘

Marakkar

: Lion of the Arabian Sea’ has received appreciation from one and all has been an inspiration for generations of actors. But not many people know that the popular actor once almost made his debut in Bengali cinema.

He was approached by Ashish Roy to play a crucial role in his film inspired by the best-selling novel ‘Phul Bou’ by Bangladeshi writer Abul Bashar and Mohanlal was supposed to play the imam’s role. Interestingly, Ashish Roy’s another film ‘Sitara’ was adapted from Abul Bashar’s literary work ‘Bhorer Prosuti’ had Meghna Naidu and Raima Sen in the lead.

According to industry sources, Mohanlal initially gave his green signal but later due to date issues he couldn’t do the film and eventually the Bengali film didn’t happen. Ashish Roy had also spoken to Radhika Apte for the titular role of Phul Bou.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s stellar act in Priyadarshan directed ‘Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea’, also starring Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Prabhu, Ashok Selvan, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh in pivotal roles has earned him accolades.
