Srijit Mukherji’s ‘
Baishe Srabon
’, one of the best Bengali thrillers in recent times, completed 10 years the National Award-winning director shared some interesting trivia about the 2011 superhit film which is the only film he has shot on celluloid.
Srijit
took to his Twitter handle to share quite a few lesser-known facts about ‘Baishe Srabon’. He wrote the Prosenjit Chatterjee,
Parambrata Chattopadhyay,
Raima Sen, Abir Chatterjee and Goutam Ghose-starrer happens to be the first film that was shot in the courtyard of the palatial mansion of Nandalal Bose, the pioneer of modern Indian art.
The noted filmmaker also shared that Baishe Srabon was first conceived as a telefilm for TV and was supposed to be directed by Parambrata,
Soumitra Chatterjee was supposed to play the foul-mouthed police officer Prabir Roy Chowdhury. Prosenjit later made the character an iconic one with his terrific performance. Also, Parambrata’s character Abhijit Pakrashi who hunts for the serial killer in ‘Baishe Srabon’, was supposed to be played by Kaushik Sen.
Mukherji further wrote in the tweet, "The climax was shot with one-third of the crew. Anjan Dutt was supposed to play Nibaron Chakraborty and Srikanto Acharya was supposed to sing the hit song from the film 'Gobhire Jao'."
In the thriller,
Goutam Ghose had played Nibaron Chakraborty, the eccentric poet who thought he was part of 1960s Bengali literary movement. The song 'Gobhire Jao' eventually became superhit as singer, composer and lyricist Anupam Roy created magic. Srijit further revealed that Anupam Roy used to complete the recordings by traveling over the weekend from Bangalore.
Not just these stunning facts, ‘Baishe Srabon’ also saw the “first use of an improvised body rig using a twisted clothes hanger”, tweeted to Srijit. The hugely popular suspense thriller was also Srijit’s first collaboration with esraj player Subhayu Sen Majumdar.
