Kolkata International Film Festival
in November as a Special Invitation Screening.
A lonely laundry-man from the sub-urbs of Kolkata finds companionship in an unclaimed red dress which triggers esoteric memories of the past.
Pankaj Tripathi plays the ironman in ‘Laali’ who earns his living by pressing others’ clothes. But interestingly, he only presses office clothes which mostly have dull and boring colours. So, the ironman is stuck in a life that’s mostly a mundane one. However, things change swiftly when he comes across a red dress. The film has been shot in a single location.
Ekavali Khanna is also a part of ‘Laali’ but she will be seen only in the climax.
Speaking about his experience of working with an acting powerhouse like Pankaj Tripathi, Abhiroop says: “He is like
Virender Sehwag. His strength and beauty is in his unpredictability. He'll try attempting a six when he is batting on 299. We never rehearsed but only shared our past life experiences and from there we formed some sort of a connect that we tried to bring to the film. Cinema I believe is all about finding ways to show our hidden sides, our vulnerabilities. I think Pankaj Tripathi is a master at that. His ability to hide himself behind a character in seconds is simply mindboggling.”
Interestingly, ‘Laali’ will have its world premiere at the
Dharamshala International Film Festival
which starts on October 29.
