Amitabh, Jaya & Rani to attend KIFF; Rukmini Maitra will be the thali girl

Kolkata’s most-awaited film festival is almost here. The 28th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) will be held from December 15-22. According to a source close to the KIFF committee, this year there won’t be any focus country at the festival. We heard that Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan are set to inaugurate the festival. Also gracing the occasion would be Rani Mukerji, Mahesh Bhatt, Sourav Ganguly and Chanchal Chowdhury, among other dignitaries. There will be a special performance by danseuse Dona Ganguly.
Amitabh Bachchan, who has been a regular guest at the KIFF opening ceremonies, skipped the ceremony in 2019 due to poor health conditions.

What’s more, this year Rukmini Maitra will be the thali girl at KIFF. Confirming the news, the actress told CT, “It is indeed a huge honour to share the stage with such important dignitaries from all over the world at the inauguration of KIFF. I am proud to be chosen as the thali girl. I have been in this industry for the past five years and to be recognised and included in such a prestigious event is no mean feat. This shows that I am doing some good work. What makes this more special for me is that our CM (Mamata Banerjee) approached me personally to be the thali girl – it means a lot.”
Rukmini plans to wear a traditional outfit at the ceremony. “But I won’t be wearing heels as I am recovering from my knee surgery,” added the actress, who will be present at the opening press conference of KIFF on Saturday.
