Although the main story had a backdrop of post colonial Calcutta, Arindam Sil always prefers to take his Byomkesh out of Kolkata. So, in the next Byomkesh installment also the iconic sleuth travels to

.

While elaborating on the film, the director revealed why its story has been set in the hill station instead of Kolkata. “The original story introduces a post colonial Calcutta. We decided to go with Mussoorie as my earlier Byomkesh films released with a refreshing feel of travelogue. The first one ‘Har Har Byomkesh’ is against the backdrop of Benaras, the second ‘

’ is set in the jungles of north Bengal. To shoot in a modern-day Kolkata and show it as a 1952 Calcutta could have been extremely difficult. One day I was having a chat with one of my friends and asked him where I would find a location that still has cobbled roads. ‘Byomkesh Gowtro’ also stars Priyanka Sarkar, Anjan Dutt, Arjun Chakraborty, Indrashish Roy, Anindita Bose, Joydip Kundu and many others.
