Arindam’s next is a tribute to Tarantino

Khela Jokhon, which will go the floors from first week of February, stars Sayani Gupta, Abir Chatterjee, Adil Hussain, Tanusree Shankar, Jayant Kripalani, Saurav Das, Indrasish Roy and others. The story and the screenplay of the film are penned jointly by Bollywood screenwriter Arijit Biswas and Arindam. Elaborating on the storyline, Arindam said, “I want to give an international feel to the film. It will start on a slow and calm note and gradually turn violent. The protagonist of the film is Urmi, who has come out of coma. Her loving husband, Sagnik, and in-laws take care of her. But soon, situations arise that contradict her beliefs. She becomes violent and there’s a reflection of that in the pace of the film.”

Arindam had a tough time delineating Urmi’s character until Sayani came on board. “Urmi’s character has many layers. I am sure Sayani will do justice to it. Abir too will be seen in a very sensitive role,” said the director.

Sayani, who is preparing herself for the character, told us from Mumbai, “Though I did a small role in Tasher Desh, I’d consider Khela Jokhon as my debut Bengali film. I was waiting for the right script and right maker and I am happy to have got both. I was hooked to the story when I first heard it. The way Urmi’s past haunts her and the unravelling of the real story are very interesting.” The film will be shot in Kolkata, Odisha and Kurseong. Bickram Ghosh is on board as the composer, while Suvankar Bhar has been roped in as the DoP.
