Bengali celebs’ boldest and most interesting statements
Our Bengali celebs are also humans. They also want to express their feelings openly. But here lies the difference, they are public figures. Every word they speak out or any of their activities go under the scanner instantly. Statements or comments made by these glamour world icons go viral, start controversies and grab the headlines. Here are some interesting statements by the Tollywood celebrities that once sparked off controversies.
Swastika Mukherjee
Swastika Mukherjee’s presence in Srijit Mukherji’s latest ‘Shah Jahan Regency’ remained talk of the town ever since the final cast was announced. She is now flooded with congratulatory messages for a stellar performance. But recently social media was much more active in commenting on Swastika working with Srijit and Parambrata, who incidentally are her ex-boyfriends. However, Swastika gave a killer reply to those who were busy in gossiping about her personal relationships.
She took to her social media handle to give a fitted reply: “this film was/is never about Exes. It was never about working with Exes. It was about being offered a role that an actor may never get in a lifetime, it was about achieving a height as an actor that may never happen in a lifetime, it was agreeing to a role that an actor may never get to portray in a lifetime. I Shudnt have waited for being offered a role of this stature by a director I have no baggage with and well I agreed and I performed. knowing fully well the media will make it all about my exes. Yes I fell in love and yes they are failed relationships but I assume I didn’t fail as an actor. After 18 years of giving my blood and soul to the profession and all the sacrifices that I have made, this is all that matters. That people remember you for the ACTOR YOU ARE, FOR THE PERFORMANCE YOU HAVE GIVEN, FOR WHAT YOU HAVE ACHIEVED. And the film says it all. I have done my bit. Over to you all now.”
Srijit Mukherji
The entire Bengali film industry was shocked to see a descriptive message from Srijit Mukherji on his Facebook page back in October as the #MeToo campaign was creating waves all over India. The message was posted after the renowned director was dragged into the #MeToo controversy by an anonymous social media user. Srijit was quick to deny all the allegations labelled against him. Srijit decided to clarify his stand as he straight away posted a message on his Facebook wall refuting the allegations.
He wrote: “With respect to the recent social media post levelled against me, I would like to explain myself. I deny the allegations of non-consensual flirting and harrassment, and believe the situation in entirety should be judged. My conversation with the said individual started with a work query which I answered at the very outset. It then, OVER TIME, went on to other topics with equal participation and was absolutely consensual, lasting for hours over months, during which I had become genuinely interested and emotionally dependent. The FIRST and the only time I realised she was uncomfortable is when I got to know she was not single, and I immediately BACKED OFF and cut off all contacts. Even when she came back after all that and got in touch with me again to seek work, I politely refused because the shooting had started by then. Even though I did feel led on, it is rather unfortunate that her side of the story had to be discussed in a defamatory post, and hence I clarify that it was completely unintentional, and I would be open to doing anything to make her feel better.”
Prosenjit Chatterjee
The Tollywood superstar was a bit discontent with how his Puja release ‘Kishore Kumar Junior’ was treated in the Box Office battle during. This year it was clash of Titans at the Durga Puja box office with 6 films releasing on the same day. As per the celebrated actor, the Kaushik Ganguly diretorial was pulled out of the theatres just when it started to pick up at the Puja box-office. "I would say Politics in Tollywood didn't let the film run in the theatre. Kishore Kumar Junior was doing well in the second week. But as we have seen in the past, politics spoiled everything. I don’t know the equations among producers. I can take care of a portion, not everything. Plus, I don’t like to request anybody. That’s how I worked." Prosenjit seemed upset about how things were handled.
Sayantika Banerjee
The brawl between once the most happening Tollywood couple Sayantika Banerjee and Joy Mukherjee shocked everyone. Joy got arrested after allegedly harassing Sayantika. Later, in an interview the Bengali actress insisted that she always wanted to keep quiet about her deteriorating relationship with actor Joy Mukherjee. But since Joy demeaned her in public, it was time to reveal the truth.
While speaking about the recent brawl with her ex-boyfriend, the actress said: “I have seen many derogatory comments against me on social media recently. But I decided to ignore them to maintain my dignity. I had no plan to disrepute Joy. Frankly speaking, I didn’t want our personal fallout to affect our profession, but now had no other choice but to seek police help after the recent events. I wanted to resolve the differences mutually. But sadly Joy didn’t actually want to tread these lines.”
Pratim D Gupta
Kaushik Ganguly is all set for his next ‘Jyesthoputra’ inspired by ‘Anya Nayak’, a script written by late Rituporno Ghosh. It was the late filmmaker's brother Indranil Ghosh who handed over the copyright of the script to Kaushik Ganguly. However, another renowned filmmaker Pratim D Gupta reignited the controversy as he took to his Twitter handle to share an unpleasant information.
He wrote: “By now, something like this doesn't surprise or shock me. Pains me, yes, because this was my only script, co-written with Rituda. And now I can't ever direct it. It's not only unfair to me, it's extremely unfair to the legacy of Rituparno Ghosh. What a shame!”
The awkward situation no doubt irked Kaushik Ganguly. While speaking to the media regarding the same, the renowned filmmaker was quick to clear out all the confusions and doubts. “Let me be clear, I am not working on the script Pratim wrote with Rituparno. We have borrowed Rituparno’s concept only.”
Dev
Anjan Dutt has already announced his next film titled ‘Operation Writers’ based on Binay-Badal-Dinesh. The movie will focus on the trio's attack at the Writers Building as they killed the diabolic British police officer Saunders. The cast and release date have also been confirmed. But the interesting part is Dev plans to produce a film on the same subject. Currently the research work for the same is underway and the Tollywood superstar has claimed he announced the film almost 2 years ago. "I had made the announcement of a movie on Binay Badal Dinesh way before. Why any other house is working on the same subject is something beyond my knowledge," said Dev who plans to hit the floor in 2019 for his own Binay-Badal-Dinesh film.
