Chanchal Chowdhury embodies Mrinal Sen in Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Padatik’; teaser out now

Ace Tollywood filmmaker Srijit Mukherji is set to pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen through his film ‘Padatik’. The teaser for the much-anticipated film is out now. Team ‘Padatik’ unveiled the teaser for the film marking Mrinal Sen’s 101st birthday on May 14.

‘Padatik’ is Srijit’s homage to the acclaimed filmmaker Mrinal Sen and is inspired by his times and his works. The film features prominent Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury as Mrinal Sen. Chanchal Chowdhury has already wowed the audience with his look in the film. The teaser shows him portraying the legendary filmmaker, and the viewers are in awe.

The black-and-white teaser of ‘Padatik’ captures the tumultuous time in Bengal. The teaser opens with the scene of a funeral procession of Rabindranath Tagore and then goes on to discuss the cultural shift and anarchy in the state. Mrinal Sen is known to be the ‘experimental genius’ in the case of films, and ‘Padatik’ promises to breathe life into the turbulent, struggling, and thriving phases of his life and filmmaking career. The teaser also serves as a glimpse of the maestro’s journey as an artist during the various political upheavals in the country.

Mrinal Sen has always been known as a filmmaker who preferred portraying reality through the camera rather than conjuring a fantasy world to entice the audience. His films have featured mass famine, the partition, and the rise of right-wing nationalism, amongst many other era-defining events. Unlike his contemporary, Mrinal Sen stayed closer to ‘rough edges’ than refinements.

‘Padatik’, which loosely translates to ‘footman’, is Srijit’s homage to Mrinal Sen’s life and his works. Alongside Chanchal Chowdhury, the film stars Monami Ghosh, Jeetu Kamal, and Korak Samanta as important characters. The music for the film has been arranged by Indraadip Dasgupta. The release date of the film has yet to be announced.
