The frenzy surrounding his film ‘Hawa’ had already become talk of the town but Chanchal Chowdhury didn’t expect that the response will be so overwhelming as his film was screened at the 4th Bangladesh Film Festival in Kolkata. His superlative acting and humble personae brought in a huge queue at Nandan where the film was lauded by cinephiles who rushed to see the critically acclaimed film which was being screened for the first time in India.
The Nandan – 1 hall, with a capacity of just 1,100 people, was literally overcrowded as more than 2,000 people, came to see the movie alongside Chanchal Chowdhury who sung the iconic song ‘Shada Shada Kala Kala’ song to make the audience go crazy. The Bangladeshi actor says this experience will be etched in his heart forever. Thousands of people flocked to Nandan to catch a glimpse of him made Chanchal all too emotional.
"I can’t express the feelings. Such warm welcome has filled my heart with gratitude and love. It is a surreal experience, and also an unforgettable one," shared an excited Chanchal Chowdhury adding that the overwhelming response to ‘Hawa’ is a great achievement for the entire team. “The way our films are being made now I believe Bangladeshi films will soon be a major talking point in world cinema with the amazing quality of contents. There were two screenings of ‘Hawa’ on the first day and in both cases the hall was overcrowded. Some managed to find seats, while others watched the movie patiently sitting on the floor and seeing this love towards the film just moved me.
Such is the craze surrounding ‘Hawa’ that the organizers had to increase the number of screening after seeing the huge popularity and hype. "The authorities told me that this is a record in the history of Nandan, as they haven’t seen such a massive crowd before. Also, this is the first time they had to reach out to the police to handle the crowd. I believe audience love is the most precious achievement for any artiste. I spoke with some of the audience who said that they came to Kolkata the previous day, only to see me and watch 'Hawa'. I am so happy to receive such love from Kolkata," the seasoned actor said.
