After the success of '
Mishawr Rawhoshyo
' (2013) and 'Jaatishwar' (2014), Swastika Mukherjee is likely to reunite with director
Srijit Mukherji for the third time. Rumour has it that Srijit recently approached Swastika to play the role of Karabi Guha in his upcoming adaptation of Shankar’s classic 1962 novel ‘
Chowringhee
’.
When the film was first announced, Jaya Ahsan was expected to play the role but if the latest reports are to be believed, Srijit now wants Swastika to play the high society housekeeper-escort as Jaya is almost certain to portray another character in the new adaptation, air hostess Sujata Mitra.
Swastika’s last film with Srijit, ‘Jaatishwar’, won four awards in the 61st
National Film Awards
in 2014. Whereas Jaya played a significant role in Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Rajkahini’ (2015). She is also a part of the renowned director’s next ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’.
As for the rest of the cast, ‘Chowringhee’ will see
Prosenjit Chatterjee as the iconic Satyasundar (Sata) Bose, while Sankar will be portrayed by Abir Chatterjee. Mamata Shankar will be seen as socialite Mrs Pakrashi and her son Anindya’s role has been given to Jisshu Sengupta. Meanwhile, Anjan Dutt has been roped to play Marco Polo, the owner of Shahjahan hotel.
Director Srijit Mukherji has already assured the latest adaptation will not be a remake of the 1968 Bengali classic ‘Chowringhee’ in which Uttam Kumar portrayed the lead role of Sata Bose.
