In recent years, as a producer Dev has preferred to work with new talents or not so well known actors and filmmakers. He has done films under the direction of young filmmakers Rahool Mukherjee and Avijit Sen. Going against the generation notion that he doesn’t want to work with other actresses except Rukmini Maitra Dev’s last film ‘Kacher Manush’ saw Ishaa Saha opposite him. Not only that, his next release ‘Projapoti’ will also see TV actress Sweta Bhattacharya making her big screen debut opposite the Tollywood star. And now, his much-anticipated film, the Bagha Jatin biopic will once again see a fresh female lead opposite Dev.
The actor-producer is looking for a fresh actress to play Indubala, the young wife of Bagha Jatin. And his production house has already announced a casting call on social media for that. According to the announcement, the actress has to be 20-25 years old, 5’3 – 5’7 in height and has to be fluent in speaking Bengali. If the candidate has theatre experience it will be an added advantage. According to sources, the makers have already received so many applications but the hunt for the right candidate is still on.
Meanwhile, the shooting of Dev’s much-anticipated film, the ‘Bagha Jatin’ biopic, has been delayed for the time being. According to industry sources, the first schedule will start in January-February next year. Currently the team is doing recce and is not in a hurry to kickstart the shoot. Since it’s a period film and has a significant historical importance, Dev and director Arun Roy wants more time in the pre-production works and they are leaving no stone unturned while prepping up for the ambitious project.
His stellar act as Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, the father of Indian football, in Dhrubo Banerjee’s ‘Golondaaj’ had floored us all. Dev’s recent release ‘Kacher manush’ which also stars Prosenjit Chatterjee received critical acclaim. Now, fans are eagerly waiting for his next? The question is what’s in store for him next? He already has a number of genre-defying projects in the lineup. Among them, one is the much-anticipated biopic on the legendary freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay. The biopic will be directed by filmmaker Arun Roy who gave us period dramas like ‘Hiralal’ and ‘8/12’. Currently the pre-production works are in full swing as Arun is working on the script.
Fans were all too excited as soon as Dev’s first look as Bagha Jatin was dropped on August 15 earlier this year, especially Dev’s uncanny similarity with Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay has intrigued all. “Since there’s a decent similarity in the look there won’t be any major prosthetic makeover. There might be a minor prosthetic detail which will be added around the nasal area,” added the source.
Dev has yet another film in the pipeline, the Avijit Sen directed ‘Projapoti’ which will be releasing in December. The Tollywood star will play Mithun Chakraborty’s son in the film.
