Documentary-feature on Rituparno Ghosh set for theatrical release

‘Bird of Dusk’, touted to be the first exhaustive documentary-feature film on the late Rituparno Ghosh, is all geared up for its theatrical release on January 10 at Nandan with regular shows from the following day. Rituparno who heralded the present Renaissance of Bengali films breathed his last on May 30, 2013 at the age of 49.

Directed by Sangeeta Datta, ‘Bird of Dusk’ was screened at the 2017 Kolkata International Film Festival. It was basically a rough cut exhibited on the last day of the film fest. At that time the documentary-feature was still at the work-in-progress stage with a much longer duration.

Later the trailer of the film was released on April 25 last year following a US premiere at New York in May.

‘Bird of Dusk’ has a number of interviews with actors and actresses who had worked closely with Rituparno, including Aparna Sen, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Konkona Sen Sharma, Soumitra Chatterjee, Nandita Das, Sharmila Tagore and Arjun Rampal among others.

Sangeeta Datta had earlier made ‘Life Goes On’ in 2009 which featured Sharmila Tagore, Om Puri, Girish Karnad, and Soha Ali Khan in major roles.
