Tags of bright red cloth blowing among the slender stems of trees are sometimes the only signs of human habitation in parts of the dense, daunting, and lush green mangroves of the Sundarbans. But bright though they are, these pieces of cloth are a sign of mourning, tied to a tree each time a tiger kills a human at the spot of the incident. As environmental pressures reduce livelihood options, Sundarbans offer a story of battle for survival every day.
The reasons vary and that’s what director
Pradip Mistri is set to explore in his film ‘Sundarboner Goppo’. After its critically acclaimed festival rounds, now the film is gearing up for its theatrical release.
The slice-of-a-life drama has two child actors Avinash Rai and Rohini Sen along with Shantilal Mukharjee, Debesh Roychowdhury, Sandip Mandal, Shantanu Das Chitra Mukharjee, Sujit Mukharjee, and others in pivotal roles.
It’s a sublime story of Naren and Jhinuk who cross each other’s path while surviving the harsh reality of life. Naren, a fisherman’s son, meets Jhinuk, a dacoit's daughter after he gets lost in the dense jungle. Naren ends up in Jhinuk’s treehouse and befriends her. But, deep inside, the young boy is dying to get back to his village. Will he be able to get back to his village or will stay with Jhinuk and his dacoit father? To know that you have to wait for the film to release.
While the DOP is Priyoranjan Behra, music has been composed by Prashenjit Dey' If all goes according to plan, ‘Sundarboner Goppo’ will release on March 26.
