Selim Gune

and wife

Nur

— the director-producer couple from

Turkey

— were thoroughly enjoying themselves at Nandan. Before the press con, they even tasted Kolkata’s famous phuchka and loved it too! About their film, Disenchanted, Nur explained on behalf of Selim, “He can’t speak in English, but he wants to say that the film is about feelings. There’s no action.” Talking about

Yilmaz Guney

, the pioneer of political cinema in Turkey, Nur said censorship is an issue in their country. “Apart from government censorship, we also follow self-censorship.”

Curiously, it is Selim’s second film that falls in the genre of tragedy. Nur laughed and said, “Life is kind of a tragedy”. The film scene in Turkey has improved a lot, said the duo. “There’s a digital boom and many young filmmakers have come into the scene,”he said. Disenchanted is about a disillusioned self-exiled man who runs a hotel with his friend and how a young girl comes into his life and things are never the same again.
