Indranil's short film is very close to his heart

Indranil Banerjee, who deviated from pet genres, comedies and thrillers, to make a short about a father-son relationship, which he told us, is very close to his heart. “It takes a lot of courage to tell these stories, especially if you have to express it through a short film and carry the message to the masses. I believe that viewers relate to this film. I think unspoken feelings are very complex, but are very true,” Indranil told us.
He told us that the film, Ujjhyo, which stars Barun Chanda and Samrat Mukherjee as the father and his son, starts with a man entering a flat with a bag of vegetables and mutton. “He goes around cleaning the household and cooking for an old man. While taking care of the old man, various emotions run through him. He serves him food, but the old man throws the plate away and accuses him of trying to harm him, as he had stopped taking mutton after a stroke. The conversation that follows reveals they have a father-son relationship. A lot of emotional exchanges take place between them. We see accusations, grudges, allegations, complaints, explanations and clarification, and discontentment, as each try to prove his point. In the end, the son leaves the room thinking his father is as selfish as ever. What happens next forms the crux of the story,” he added.
Speaking to us, Samrat said, “The film has travelled to many festivals and bagged awards too. It was a nice experience working with Barun Chanda.”
