Jaya Ahsan who will next be seen in Shieladitya Moulik’s film ‘
Chheledhora
’ has joined leaders and celebrities from the
Commonwealth
countries to support a first-of-its-kind 'Commonwealth Says NO MORE' campaign against domestic and sexual violence.
The Commonwealth Secretariat and NO MORE Foundation recently launched the campaign in order to help tackle the growing incidents of domestic and sexual violence amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also support governments, organisations and individuals to stand against this issue through long-term prevention strategies and support.
Jaya says she feels proud to join the campaign. “We have to say no more to domestic and sexual violence. For too long, people have been saying it’s a private matter, but in reality it's not. It's another pandemic that can well destroy lives and cripple our community. For too long, our society hasn’t done enough to resist this evil practice,” Jaya told ETimes over the phone during an exclusive chat.
She further added: “Protection of women and girls from domestic and sexual violence has to be at the heart of all governmental response and everything we are doing to make a safer, fairer and better world. Please join me and the Commonwealth in saying, no more."
On the work front, Jaya’s next ‘Chheledhora’ also stars
Prantik Banerjee,
Anuradha Mukherjee among others. It’s an intense psychological story of parenthood and childhood spun around kidnapping and child trafficking.
