‘Jyeshthoputro’: Here’s why Kaushik Ganguly’s emotional family drama is a must watch

Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Jyeshthoputro’ which stars Prosenjit Chatterjee and Ritwick Chakraborty together for the first time has been making headlines ever since the film was announced. The emotional family drama is finally releasing today, April 26. So, what can the audience expect from the film? We asked the ‘Jyeshthoputro’ team to give you a sneak peek into the film’s subject and here are the excerpts:

2/5

Kaushik Ganguly

People often say that blood relations are the most important but I don’t believe in it. When a bond is created between brothers and sisters it automatically turns pure and genuine. I am sure such brothers and sisters will also enjoy Jyeshthoputro and will understand the dynamics of the bond between two brothers in terms of a relationship of heart, love and family more than of blood. Often our elderly family members express their wish to visit certain places, for example, Vaishno Devi but they cannot due their ill health or sometimes they pass away. Then their younger family members visit those places and offer a Puja in their names so that the wish of their souls gets fulfilled. I have tried to fulfil Rituparno’s desire through this film in a similar way. I have tried to take his ideas to the screen like his own family member and a colleague and I am extremely glad about it

3/5

Prosenjit Chatterjee

The film sees the accounts of pain and touches down the practical incidents that often lead to misunderstandings. Personally, I won’t say I commit completely to my family as by no means, I can deny or leave behind the responsibility I have towards my work which has made me what I am now for the last 30 years. The crises emerge when we try to maintain a balance between the two. It’s the duality that forms core essence of Ritu’s story and this film also. Plus, no matter how easily we often say we manage both these aspects of our life, in reality can’t.

There are two sequences 10-12 minutes long I can recall which involves the two brothers. These two scenes have plenty of layers, stories that will no doubt leave deep imprints in the viewers’ minds. Ritwick plays my younger brother Partho and I can guarantee People will actually feel that we are brothers in real life as well. In recent times, there hasn’t been any Bengali film that has portrayed the emotions and equations of siblings like this way, so it will be something special for the audience. I believe ‘Jyeshthoputro’ will be remembered for long. Not just me, Ritwick, Sudiptaa, Gargi, Damini – we all gave our best.

Sudiptaa Chakraborty

I won’t reveal much of the character. All I can say is that Eela, my character, shares a beautiful relationship with his elder brother - Jyeshthoputro. She lives in her own space, oblivious to the outer world. One can only use superlatives when it comes to Kaushikda. The one-liners he whispers on the sets change the whole scene. Starting from the script to character build-up and acting tips, everything about Kaushikda is great. Even the food on his sets is to die for. Kaushikda knows how to get the best from his cast.

5/5

Gargee Roy Chowdhury

If Khaad had given me 70% satisfaction as an actor, Jyeshthoputro gave me much more fulfillment. Working with a director like Kaushik Ganguly enriches you as an actor. He will give an actor all the freedom but will also draw a boundary so that one doesn’t go overboard. While my character in Khaad was of a heroine, who was kind of unreachable, Sudeshna is like us. I can’t reveal much about the character but from what we see in the trailer, it shows jyeshthoputro is dependent on Sudeshna in some ways and can visit her house late at night. There is some sort of comfort between the two. Sudeshna can tell him, ‘ki emon kotha jeta sokale bola gelona!’. So, it is evident that there is a relationship between the two.
