Swatilekha Sengupta’s death has left the Bengali entertainment industry in shock. Actor-director Kaushik Sen, who also shared the screen with her in Shiboprosad-Nandita directed ‘Belaseshe’, recalls her stunning act in ‘Sanu Roychowdhury’.

“Both in ‘Pheriwalar Mrityu’ and ‘Gotroheen’, the other characters in the plays were far more shiner. Yet, Swatidi stood out by her presence. I have not watched Rudrababu and Swatidi play Crayon and Antigone. But we were moved when we heard her read the play. I also remember her directing a play with special children titled ‘Khunje Nao’ that had

in the lead. It was remarkable,” Kaushik shared with ETimes.

Filmmaker Raj Chakraborty whose upcoming film ‘

Dharmajuddho

’ has Swastilekha playing one of the leads has one regret. “She plays a character that represents India and is secular. My regret is I couldn’t show the film to her,” said Chakraborty, who paid his last respect to the veteran actor at the crematorium on Wednesday.

Veteran actor Swatilekha Sengupta who had been suffering from a chronic kidney disorder, was under treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata breathed her last at 2.45 pm on Wednesday. She was 71. The veteran actor is survived by her husband, thespian Rudraprasad Sengupta, and daughter Sohini, also a stage and film actor.

“She had been a diabetic for a long time. That led to kidney failure,” informed Swatilekha's daughter Sohini.

"I will remember the good times we have spent!! May god wrap his arms around you and comfort you. Love you #swatilekhasengupta," tweeted her ‘Dharmajuddho’ co-star Subhashree Ganguly as she mourned the loss and shared condolence.
"Very sad to hear about #SwatilekhaSengupta. RIP. Was fortunate enough to work with her briefly as producer for our film #Chauranga. Unfortunately the desire to direct her will remain unfulfilled. Gone too soon Will remain immortalised for her performance in #GhareBhaire," tweeted director Onir.
