Independent filmmaker
Tushar Ballov’s socio-political drama ‘
Baki Itihas
’ has already fetched accolades in its festival rounds both in India and abroad. The film starring a bunch of talented actors like
Sangeeta Ballov
,
Tanmay Majumdar,
Surajit Mondal
, and Pulakesh Bhattacharya has already been screened at several prestigious festivals including Neo-South international Film Festival, Los Angeles Asian international Film festival (Hollywood), Amman International Film Festival and the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival. Now, the hard-hitting film is an official selection at the sixth
Dehradun International Film Festival
.
The film starts with a young lad Jana getting into a confrontation with a local political party. A police case is filed against him. He tries to contact Bablu through Gouri di whose relationship with Bablu is a little strange one. Gouri considers Bablu as her only emotional shelter in mundane lonely life. Bablu meanwhile wants to escape with Gouri di and give her tormented life some relief. However, one fine morning his dreams get shattered as he witnesses Gouri di's body floating in the canal. Bablu gets to know she has been raped before being killed. Bablu also watches Jana's murder secretly but can’t do anything. Meanwhile, police arrive in their neighborhood looking for a young terrorist about Bablu's age. When Bablu finally tries to flee escaping the Police, a gunshot draws the curtain over his hitherto uneventful life. Or, does it really?
That is what director Tushar Ballov is representing through his works. Films based on socio-political issues are making a comeback to Indian cinema and many young filmmakers are trying their luck in this envelope-pushing trend.
While speaking about the film and its selection in Dehradun Tushar shares ‘Baki Itihas’ is solely a representation of my Political understanding. “It’s different from those classic theoretical political films or larger-than-life Bollywood-inspired political films we are accustomed to watching in the Bengali film industry. I have tried to represent the politics of labour class mass through this film. This political understanding matches the melancholic political understanding of Jasimuddin. I'm really elated with the news of the film being selected at the Dehradun International Film Festival."
While Sourav Banerjee has handled the camera, Anirban Roy has created the music, he along with Tushar Ballov has also penned the songs. Samir Aich is the art director
Sabyasachi Paul
has designed the sound while the film has been edited by Gobindo Naskar.
Tushar is also hoping to release the film in theatres after the COVID situation normalizes.
