The 9th edition of the

Kolkata International Children's Film Festival

(KICFF) kicks starts on January 19 and will run for eight days. The Information and Cultural Affairs department on Wednesday announced near about 1,200 children will receive delegate cards to watch the films during this festival. This year the films have been categorised into two divisions. The first category will screen films for all age groups and the second category will have films for children of 14 years and higher age group.

Prasad Ranjan Roy, former IAS and a screening committee member, said films from more than 35 countries will be screened at the festival. ‘Hamid’, which won the best Urdu film award at the 66th National Film Award, will be the inaugural film this year. The child actor of

During the eight-day event, all the films will be shown at

Rabindra Sadan

, Sisir Mancha, Rabindra Okakura Bhavan, Chalachitra Satabarsha Bhavan, Ahindra Mancha, Rabindra Tirtha and Star Theatre, plus three halls in Nandan. Near about 250 films will be screened. One guardian will be allowed to accompany their ward. Apart from these, free passes can be collected from each of the venues.
